Privacy Policy
Hollr is built around anonymity — you chat under a nickname, and we collect as little as we can. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and the choices you have. Last updated September 2026.
What you give us
When you join you pick a nickname and optionally share a gender, an age, a state-or-region level location, and interest tags. Registered accounts also have an email address and password. We never ask for your real name, exact address or phone number.
What we collect automatically
We store basic technical data needed to run the service: your approximate region (derived from your IP address at state/country level only — never your city), your online status, and when you were last active. Your IP address is not shown to other users.
Your chats
Private messages, photos and voice notes are stored so they can be delivered and shown in your conversation history. They are visible to you and the person you chat with. Messages and photos may also be analysed by automated systems (including AI) solely to detect scams, harassment and other rule violations.
Cookies and local storage
We use essential storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences like your theme and cookie choice. If you accept, advertising partners (such as Google AdSense) may set cookies to personalise and measure ads. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies in the banner, and change your mind by clearing site data.
Moderation data
When content is flagged — automatically or through user reports — we keep a record of the event, the reason, and moderation strikes on the account. This is used only to enforce the rules and keep the community safe.
What we never do
We don't sell your personal data. We don't show your email to other users. We don't build advertising profiles from your private conversations. We don't track your city or precise location.
Third-party services
Hollr runs on hosted infrastructure for the database, file storage, AI moderation and captcha, and may serve ads through Google AdSense. These providers process data only as needed to deliver their part of the service, under their own privacy terms.
Data retention
Chat history is kept while your account or guest session exists. Guest profiles expire when the guest session ends or after extended inactivity. Moderation records are kept as long as needed to enforce the rules.
Your choices
You can edit or clear your location, gender and interests anytime on your profile page, block any user, and decline non-essential cookies. To delete your account and its data, contact us through the site and we'll remove it.
Children
Hollr is for adults 18 and over only. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; any such account is removed as soon as it's discovered.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page with a new date. Continuing to use Hollr after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions people ask
- Can the person I'm chatting with see my email or IP?
- No. Other users only see your nickname, avatar colour, and whatever gender, region and interests you chose to show.
- Are my private messages read by staff?
- Not routinely. Automated systems scan for scams and abuse, and reported conversations may be reviewed by moderators — nothing more.
- How do I delete my data?
- Contact us through the site and we'll delete your account, profile and chat history.
